friendship and love? In John Mentink’s The Dance of the Poets, we meet the retired scientist who has enriched
his life by writing poetry, and the woman who has dedicated her life to caring for others. It is through the
exchange of emails that their dialog begins.
Although the book is written in rhyme, so much of the story revolves around the scientist’s poetry. And, in time,
hers as well. Theirs is the story of recaptured youth, two people discovering new worlds and viewing the old one
in a new and refreshing way.
The Dance of the Poets takes the reader on a unique journey through a second and imaginary novel, The Man
From McKee, which the author has developed as an unusual literary tool, thereby creating plot within plot. It is
through the revelations embedded in this second story that the relationship of the scientist and the caretaker
grows and changes, leading them into observations about social change and the value of life.
Innocently, two creative people exchanging information about life and love, and who have never met, become
two souls who discover a mate.
About the author:
Holland-born author John Mentink is a scientist by profession, and a poet at heart. His poetry has been
published worldwide through Noble House UK. Among his many poetry awards, he is the recipient of the March
2005 Editor’s Award, bestowed by the International Library of Poetry.
